NEW BLOG POST: Never in my wildest dreams could I NEW BLOG POST: Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined a school year like 2020.

Educators around the world have spent hours learning how to provide distance learning to their students, while helping their own children learn at home, take care of family members, provide healthy meals and more.

Teacher authors like myself, have quickly responded to requests for materials to be used with Boom Learning and Google Classrooms.

Electronic resources though are but one solution to distance learning. Click on the link in my profile to read more about 4 REASONS TO LOVE STEM CHOICE BOARDS... @jewelpastor 🙌🏼

I’ve enjoyed sleeping in, going to the beach, eating out and shopping with the family. I’m also taking the time to declutter my house, work on my business and study for a church event later this week. How awesome it is to be able to take a break from school and just be kind to myself. How are YOU being kind to yourself?

I’m on a mission to find little joys in each day and it’s only appropriate to be really happy in the photo.😁 Yesterday, I had a couple of joys: A student who thanked me for ‘an amazing lesson’ and another one who volunteered to read out loud despite his reading difficulties (and doing it well)! Fall, teachers, and apples have been connected for Fall, teachers, and apples have been connected for as far as anyone can remember, but most folks don’t know why. The most popular theory seems to stem (pun intended 😊) from the pioneer days when families often paid the teacher with produce. Apples were often given as a gift of appreciation. “An apple for the teacher” became a popular slogan and nowadays back to school crafts and units feature shiny red apples at their core (Sorry, couldn’t help myself!).

For you own back to school nod to the apple’s place in school history, why not try one of my Fall STEM Activities, the Apple Sling Shot STEM Challenge? Challenge your students to design and build a slingshot for launching apples using a y-shaped tree branch, felt, rubber bands, and a stapler. You can also modify the task and include any other materials you would like. Small pumpkins, acorns, or even crab apples can be used in place of regular apples.
