Amazing! 🤩Tomorrow morning when you get into a class or when you're sitting down with your children later today ask them this question...
'Do you know how sperm whales take a nap?'
When sperm whales need a nap, they take a deep breath, dive down about 45 feet and arrange themselves into perfectly level, vertical patterns, like the picture below.
They sleep sound and still for up to two hours at a time between breaths, in pods of 5 or 6 whales, for protection.
For 180,000 years no one knew whales slept vertically until a 2008 study documented the behaviour. And no one captured a really good photo of it in the wild until 2017.
Here is that photograph....
and then when your children say 'WOW!' you simply follow up by saying....
"What other things would you like to know about whales?' and watch them go!!!
